We shot a wedding this weekend in Helena, Arkansas. It was quite the little road trip :) I (Shelley) celebrated my 31st birthday with the newly wedded Rachel & Vance Kalb. I can honestly say it was really fun. It's always a positive thing to have a super smiley groom, and we met him first. We knew after that that the day was going to go smoothly. Good ol' southern charm goes a long way!

Our bride has a precious nephew, Max, that ended up in a lot of photos. Can you tell why? That cute little rascal is very loved.

Bradford Wedding

Paige & Tim held their reception in Hot Springs, at Garvan Gardens. It was gorgeous! Beautiful weather, beautiful bride, beautiful surroundings.

The glass chapel is perfect. The light from the day was warm and gorgeous.

They left notecards on every pew, asking guests to write a "memory" or best wishes. They cracked us UP.

Their poolside reception was greatly enjoyed by all their guests.

Rosjuane and I shot a wedding in Warren, Arkansas Saturday at First Baptist Church. It was the ceremony of Julianna Smith and Harry Yeatman. It was the largest bridal party either of us had ever seen. You see, Miss Julianna had NINE bridesmaids, and TEN honorary bridesmaids! Whew. That's a LOT of friends.

Julianna had exsquisite bridals displayed throughout the church, and I loved them all. She has gorgeous red hair, and the stained glass windows in the church made for a beautiful backdrop for them.

They had a memorial table, complete with photos of loved ones that had passed away. Pictured above is the bride's late father, Mark Smith.

All the bright flowers and summery details made for one gorgeous ceremony.

Wedding cake adn grooms cake (pictured below in duck theme) was made by Tiffany, of Piece of Cake.

The reception was held at the Warren Country Club, complete with a live band and dancing.

Lead soloist was Kris Allen's brother :) Yes, the one that won American Idol.

Yes, the bride WAS that happy all day long.

We were glad the bridesmaids were a blast!

Newton/Avant Wedding

We travelled to the big ol' town of Hampton to shoot the Avant/Newton wedding last weekend. After some confusion on the directions from our lovely bride, haha, we made it there in plenty of time. We expected a small, country church, but ended up arriving to a beautiful sanctuary.

She had lots of cute engagement photos, courtesy of Rosjuane.

Saturday we had the pleasure of shooting a wedding in Hampton. But before we show the wedding pictures I wanted to finally unveil a few of the bridals. I have done Shawnee's senior pictures, engagments, bridals, and we both did the wedding. I can't wait to carry on the tradition ONE DAY with a baby. She wanted traditional but also wanted some with a "country girl" theme. You will understand later when we show you pictures from the reception!!

As we said earlier, our wedding from last weekend was chosen as the feature story in the High Profile Weddings section of the state paper. Here is that story, below.

Wedding vows were exchanged by Diana Catherine Taylor and David Curtis Sawyer at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 6, in Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Ed Simpson officiating.

Mr. and Mrs. Kent Wilson Taylor, 12805 Morrison Road, are the parents of the bride. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wayne Holt of Pine Bluff and Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Stanley Taylor of Fort Smith.

Parents of the bridegroom are Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Curtis Sawyer, 4101 Valley View Drive. His grandparents are Mrs. Henry Thomas Prigge of Atlanta, the late Mr. Prigge, Mrs. Eugene Glenn of Nashville, Tenn., and the late Eli Erskine Sawyer.

The chancel held matching cathedral arrangements of peonies, garden roses, hydrangeas and stargazer lilies. Music was by organist Adam Savacool and soloist Whitney Martin. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a strapless A-line gown of ivory matte satin with a sheer silk ivory organza overlay and chapel-length train. The bodice had a sweetheart neckline and a waistline which was embellished with lace and champagne satin ribbon secured by a sparkling brooch. Her two-tier waltz-length veil was ivory with rolled satin edges.

Along with her great-grandmother's green linen handkerchief, she carried a clutch bouquetfilled with peonies, garden roses and viburnum. Elizabeth Stainton of Fayetteville served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Natalie Bingaman of Fayetteville and Ellen Reaves of Rome, Ga., cousins of the bride; Morgan LaPorte of Chicago; and Lacey Thorpe of Dallas.

They wore douppioni silk kneelength dresses in midori green with cap sleeves and shirred bands at their Empire waistlines. They carried bouquets of hot pink roses and hypericum berries. Best man was Jeffrey Sawyer of Little Rock, brother of the bridegroom. Groomsmen were Jay Murphy of Little Rock, Whit Cocanower of Fayetteville, Robert Dudley of Hot Springs and Andrew Shelor of Rogers. Guests were seated by Daniel Bingaman of Fayetteville and Graham Reaves of Rome, also cousins of the bride.

Guest tables at a reception in the Albert Pike Hotel were covered with apple green linens and cerise lamour runners. They held glass cubes and cylinders with floating stargazer lilies. The ballroom ceiling featured a greenery grid of boxwood garlands accentedwith wedding flowers.

A large glass hurricane vase on the buffet held peonies, garden roses, hydrangeas and bells of Ireland.

The bride graduated magna cum laude from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in May with bachelor's degrees in political science and international relations. She was named Senior Scholar and to the dean's list and was a vice president of Alpha Omicron Pi. She has interned with Sen. Blanche Lincoln and Rep. Vic Snyder, both D-Ark. The bridegroom also graduated this spring from the UA with bachelor's degrees in political science and international relations. He graduated cum laude, was academic chairman of Lambda Chi Alpha and received the University of Arkansas Honors College Fellowship. He plans to be a student in the fall at American University, Washington School of Law in Washington. After a honeymoon in Eureka Springs, the couple will make their home in Washington.

We had a shoot on Saturday with Shelly & Steven; their Allen House wedding!

This is one of our favs!

There are a lot of gorgeous details within this old mansion.

Finishing touches on the beautiful bride! It's always fun to work with brides that are as enjoyable as she was.

The bride designed her own cake, which I think fit her personality very well.

Bridal Shoot

Rosjuane and I had a blast doing the bridals at the Old Statehouse last week. Unfortunately, we can't share them yet! It's making us crazy to have to hide them... But it won't be too long before we can; her wedding is in June. Beneath these photos are the kind words we received from the mother of the bride. We are really glad they love them as much as we do!

We just love the pics of Di. I let my Mom go to the site. She was wowing so much that my father couldn't resist and he had planned not to see Di in the dress until the day! "breath taking" "Gorgeous" I think the small priviledged few are definitely wowed.

I think the bench shot with her veil blowing back is awesome. But there are so many others! We are excited for ya'll to shoot the wedding! Don't you love making people so happy. Thanks again for a great day!

Just a quick note to let our readers know, even if you do not decide to book us for your actual ceremony, we are available for bridal portraits. I have a session coming up very soon at the Old State House, and Rosjuane has one at the Capitol building, so keep that in mind; we DO travel!

For anyone looking, and not sure about whether you can afford the money we understand. Weddings are expensive!! We know we have both been there done that. That being said this is your only way of being able to look back and have your memories from that day. Your wedding pictures should be priority!! What will it matter that your dress was perfect and cost a fortune or that your flowers were beautiful if you don't have quality pictures to show your grandchildren. Sure you can preserve your dress, carry your memories in your heart, but the flowers are going to die or if you go silk get all dusty and fade. Your wedding photos will last a lifetime. We do offer payment plans. We are very flexible!! We can work with you. Give us a call to find out more!!

Referral Incentive Special

For a limited time, we will be running a referral special. If you sucessfully refer us to friends or family, you will receive a $50 credit with either Rosjuane or I, for use towards a portrait session for yourself. You can use this credit towards prints, or your sitting fee. Simply contact us PRIOR TO your referral client's booking, and we will work out the details! Some restrictions do apply: This special is only applicable to weddings booked after today, Feb 23, that were not previously under contract. In order to receive your credit, the client must pay the 50% deposit to hold their wedding date. Your $50 credit must be used within 90 days of being issued, and we reserve the right to choose which photographer you will be working with due to availability/booking issues. The Un-Veiling!

We have been working very hard to keep this under wraps, and now are officially ready for the "un-veiling" of our new business. Rosjuane and I are happy to announce that we are officially working together as wedding photographers. After a friendship that spans over ten years, we have decided to band together on our most tedious work; which is weddings. She and I have built our own individual businesses from the ground up, and being self taught may not be the easiest way to go, but we CAN say, it's thorough. Trial and error teaches way more than any class ever could! After shooting weddings alone for several years, we have decided that we can better serve our clients if we work as a team, rather than one on one. We feel certain we can more adequately cover ceremonies and receptions by going at it this way, and are excited at the new possibilities before us.

Hopefully this way of doing things will always leave one of us "free" to catch the real moments...that are truly the best memories....all the while catching the typical "staged" stuff as well. We hope to keep pricing as reasonable as possible, and plan to do what we can to continue to grow and learn with our skills. Shelley Smith and Rosjuane Stevens

Shelley is from Monticello, Arkansas, and has been pursuing a passion for photography for over 8 years. What began as a hobby quickly expanded to a business, which includes everything from sports to childrens portraits. Shelley works with all natural light, and enjoys capturing the unexpected moments during weddings. She is married to Michael Smith, and has two daughters, Jordan and Karsyn.

Rosjuane is from McGehee, Arkansas, and is married to Brad Stevens. They have two children; Ashlyn and Garret. Rosjuane shoots in a photojournalistic style, and works hard to document every aspect of weddings by closely capturing the detail shots. Rosjuane is also a family and child photographer, and has been for approximately 7 years.

SS Wedding Photography takes pride in our unobtrusive, yet comprehensive style. Together, Rosjuane and Shelley have nearly 15 years of experience. FAQ's
What is "photojournalism"?
A: Photojournalism is not a style but more of the philosophy on how the photographer approaches photographing a subject or event. A wedding photojournalist will photograph the wedding as an observer, and will not interfere or try to force moments into happening. They capture the shots that help tell the story of your day.

Q: Do you travel?
A: We are available for booking at almost any venue. Some travel fees will apply, but we will try and be as reasonable as possible; just ask, and we will cater a plan to fit your needs.

Q: Are there time limits?
A: Our packages include __ hours of time. Additional or less hours are always available. We have found that the average length of photography time needed for a wedding is ___ hours. Please contact us so that we can put together the right contract/package for you!

Q: How many photographs do you typically take at a wedding?
A: For a typical wedding, there will be approximately 400-600 images. Once we begin post processing, we will edit these images down to your best 250-300 final images that form your wedding pictures. With digital photography, there is a greater sense of freedom and experimentation that is available. Also, the ability to capture more moments is particularly suited to a photojournalistic style of wedding photography.

Q: What if your camera breaks?
A: Every piece of equipment has at least one back-up. Some have two.

Q: I've heard that digital prints don't last as long as prints from film?
A: This is not true. Although a copyright release will be issued, we greatly suggest you take advantage of our extremely low print pricing rates offered only for weddings, and print directly through our online proofing site.
Q: Do you offer the images online?
A: Yes! All of our weddings are posted online so that you and your family and friends can order their own prints and have them shipped to each person individually. All of our clients have their own password protected website for viewing all of their images. Cropping is also available through this site.

Q: What if you are sick and unable to come to the wedding?
A: One of the benefits of working with a team of photographers is that we will always have back-up so you will never be left stranded. In a case where they were all booked or not available, we would make every effort to find a subsitute photographer to shoot your wedding. It would be someone that we feel has equal creativity and experience. We would also pick up any addtional costs, if there were to be any.

Q: What else should I look for in hiring a wedding photographer?
A: Great Photographs!! Focus on the photographs and look for style, composition, lighting and creativity. Look for photographs with a variety of pleasing and interesting angles and perspectives. Look for work that is not "boring" and overly posed.
